Humidity, both directions

This is where the trade earns its reputation for overselling, so here is the plain version. Some whole-home air purifiers and UV systems do provide a real benefit for specific households, particularly where someone has significant allergies, asthma or a compromised immune system, or where mold on the coil is a recurring issue. For a typical healthy household with a good filter and a well-maintained system, the added benefit is usually small relative to the cost.
We are not going to tell you these products are miracles, and we are not going to tell you they are useless, because neither is true. What we will do is ask what problem you are actually trying to solve, and only recommend one of these if it genuinely addresses it. If a good filter and steady humidity will get you there, that is what we will say.
One caution on ozone
A few air-cleaning devices work by producing ozone, or produce it as a byproduct. Will an air purifier help my allergies?
It might, and it might make little difference, which is why the honest answer starts with a question rather than a sale. For someone with significant allergies or asthma, good whole-home filtration and controlled humidity often do most of the work, and a purifier adds a real but smaller benefit on top.

Do I need a whole-home humidifier in Oklahoma?
